Xeno Tactic 2

"Decent game, but could be better"

submission: Xeno Tactic 2
date: May 6, 2008

At first glance, and without comparing this to the original (as it should be), it is a good game. BUT, it has some frustrating aspects. The idea that each tower has a multitude of ways to upgrade it, rather than a predefined upgrade path is commendable. Unfortunately, given the resources required to upgrade and to purchase new turrets, it prevents the full experience of diverse upgrades. Also, I believe that the specialization of the different turrets makes each worthy of use, unlike many other TD games that you can specialize in one or two towers. Unfortunately, on that same note, the lack of Anti-Air support is quite frustrating. Although it can be done with some luck and planning, more often than not, many air units will get past the defenses. With the lack of funds, it is too often that any air defenses are just not enough. Also of note is the turning speed of all the turrets - it simply is not fast enough. It would be nice if the 'speed' upgrade also had a correlation to the turning speed.
Now, on much more positive notes; The graphics were great. Unless you went to a 3d graphics engine, I don't think you could get better. The sounds, although repetitive, were suitable to the game and style. The ability to build walls, and to build turrets on top of them was a clever idea to balance a TD game with strategy.
Now, as a comparative to the first Xeno Tactics, this could've been better, if only the 'frustrating' aspects were removed. But, another game to which I am thankful for the time and effort put into making this game. It was a proper waste of time, and despite the copious amounts of frustration that I had trying to perfect my gaming style, I had fun. Which, I suppose, is what these are all about.
I look forward to either a remake, or the next Xeno Tactic.

Seven Deadly Sins

"Good enough to make me want to review"

submission: Seven Deadly Sins

I was highly impressed. Here I was, thinking it would be just another so-so production. Instead, I actually laughed. It was a very good combination other ideas, to make an old genre new and unique.
Now, for the ups-and-downs:
On the up-side, everything I just mentioned. (And anything else I liked, but forgot about already)
On the negative-side...
Graphics were okay, but could've been a little better.
The fights were basic, but could've used a little better... play? I don't know exactly how to describe it.
On some of the "tasks", the constant repeating of the dialogue was a little annoying.
Which just reminded me of what I laughed about.... The "task" comments. Yeaah.... those were quite humorous.
Anyway, good job. Oh, and welcome to my favorite list :-)

Moroni's March

"Bad bugs, good game."

submission: Moroni's March
date: April 9, 2006

Overall, the game was well put together.
Good news:
The graphics were superb. For the engine capabilities of flash, the suited this style of game well. Although the music was repetative, it fit the game, and wasn't annoying. The use of many different "skills" was a nice addition. Overall, a game worthy of a company buying the rights to, and making a full fledged game out of it.
Bad news:
This game is pierced by bugs. Many that I noticed when first playing were fixed with the latest addition. Although, some were still present. One of the minor bugs was a small time lapse when the game was momentarilly paused. The timer would start again as soon as the game was unpaused (for whatever reason), but it still had a short delay before your troops would begin to move again. The delay was roughly 20 ticks. The fighters attack-side skill does not work properly. For me, the only way to stop him was to demote him. Also, he is not needed to win the game. There are more issues, but others have already mentioned them.

Author's Response:

Thanks, I'm flattered you think the concept is worthy of a real company buying it.

Bugs bugs bugs...I know, but once burn out sets in there's not much I'm willing to do.
